Hello Prospective AP Students, Welcome to the summer assignment! Here’s a little about the course: AP English Language and Composition is designed to help you explore how authors convey messages, how authors appeal to readers, and how authors entice you to react, relate, and respond to their messages. In a nutshell, we study rhetoric – the beautiful art of argument and style. This is a college-level course, in which we analyze nonfiction, primarily, and engage in college-level reading and writing assignments to assist you with becoming more proficient critical thinkers. The purpose of this summer assignment is three-fold: (1) to get to know you a little before school starts – and to have you get to know me, (2) to have you look closely at the types of persuasive messages you receive in media, and (3) to have you read closely and write informatively and reflectively, building ideas and uncovering meaning through analysis. All of these assignments will be graded and count toward your first quarter points. In terms of level of difficulty, I consider these assignments to be easy to medium. So, why not start the quarter off with a great grade? Be sure to submit work on time. I do not accept late work. Send me an email early if you have extenuating circumstances. When you open the assignment document, be sure to read the entire sheet before you begin the assignments. Each should be emailed on or BEFORE Friday (before midnight) . Be mindful of the subject lines in gray. Be mindful of due dates. Email me if you have questions. Welcome to the class. I look forward to getting to know you. |
